More on the CT whirl sign of volvulus

Attached are some more views of the whirl as well as autopsy photos of the twisted intestine-mesintary.  This whirl appears to be a particularly tight one.  A fact confirmed by the autopsy photos.  The patient survived a day and three quarters post CT.

If you're interpreting CT scans for patients with acute abdomens you better know a whirl sign.  You won't see a lot of them but the one you miss might cost someone the ultimate price.  Calling out a whirl sign is an opportunity for a radiologist to make a real difference.  This lady's could be seen on approx. 7 images.
